Yellowhammer Fund v. Attorney General of AL: what you need to know

Last week, Yellowhammer Fund sued Alabama’s attorney general for the right to assist people seeking abortions in legal access states. You may be wondering “how did we get here?” and that’s a solid question! Let’s break it down in this quick lawsuit explainer.

The short version: After Roe was overturned and Alabama’s total abortion ban took effect, AL’s AG Steve Marshall made it clear that he would look into prosecuting anyone helping Alabama abortion seekers, even those obtaining LEGAL care out of state. YHF sought legal counsel and made the deeply difficult decision to pause abortion funding in order to protect those we serve as well as our staff, board, volunteers, and community members. BUT we never gave up on fighting for our abortion clients so here we are!

We will be giving regular updates on this lawsuit and our ongoing Reproductive Justice work, so be sure to sign up for email updates and check our social media pages @yellowfund for the latest news! You can also click this link to read the full press release on our blog.

Until next time,

Support Reproductive Justice in the Deep South

The Yellowhammer Fund envisions a society in which reproductive decisions are made free from coercion, shame, or state interference, a society in which individuals and communities have autonomy in making healthy choices regarding their bodies and their futures.
