Our first Repro Raven bus stop was a success!

Our first Repro Raven bus stop was a success! We rallied, we shared crucial reproductive health resources, we distributed 5,000 diapers, 200 safer sex kits, Plan B, pads, tampons, condoms, pregnancy tests, over 200 lunches, and ice cream – it was HOT out there y’all, even for us Alabamians!

We especially want to thank our partner organizations who joined us: POWER House, AL Values, Unitarian Universalist Church of Birmingham, Alabama Campaign for Adolescent Sexual Health, URGE AL, Socialist Alternative, SURJ, and of course Margins: Women Helping Black Women.

We also want to acknowledge the impact of Mia Raven: “The namesake of the ‘Repro Raven’ is former operations manager Mia Raven, who died on April 6 of this year. ‘[Raven] and her husband actually found the bus for us and got it ready, but she passed before she could see it running,’ [Yellowhammer’s Executive Director Jenice] Fountain said. There is no abortion access that doesn’t have Mia’s footprint on it in some way in the state.

Ultimately, our community came together on Saturday and brought a joyful energy – we danced, we listened to stories, we learned, we chatted and made connections, and most importantly, we left with more than we arrived with whether it was knowledge, new friends, a Plan B to have on hand, or all of the above.

We’ve got 4 more bus stops planned for this summer! You can help us stock the bus by sending us supplies via our Amazon wishlist, or by donating directly.Help #GasUsUp now!

Support Reproductive Justice in the Deep South

The Yellowhammer Fund envisions a society in which reproductive decisions are made free from coercion, shame, or state interference, a society in which individuals and communities have autonomy in making healthy choices regarding their bodies and their futures.
