Fund-A-Thon 2021 is ending – help us reach our goal

The people we help are the ones living paycheck to paycheck. Some months they make it. Most months they don’t. And being hit with the unexpected cost of an out of pocket abortion expense (because no insurance will cover it) guarantees they won’t be able to cover all of their expenses for the month. They are already paycheck to paycheck. They need it to pay the rent, the groceries, the electricity. There’s nothing left.

Y’all fight so hard for all people to have health insurance – but Alabama and Mississippi won’t even expand Medicaid. And even if we got the politicians to do it, it wouldn’t pay for an abortion anyway. You’re pushing for a living wage – but at $15 an hour, it would still take more than a week to pay for a first trimester abortion, even if you didn’t take taxes out. You show up when Black people are gunned down by police, but what about the thousands of Black mamas we lose because racism and for-profit medicine means we are three times more likely to die in childbirth?

It’s our last push for Fund-A-Thon, and we are still $50,000 short of our fundraising goal. Like our callers, we are funding month to month, and when that money runs out, we have to wait until the next one to start over again. If we don’t hit our goal, we can’t help them make theirs – their goal to not be pregnant anymore, to not be forced to give birth.

If you are reading this, can you give just $10 to make sure someone else can make it to the end of the month, too?

Support Reproductive Justice in the Deep South

The Yellowhammer Fund envisions a society in which reproductive decisions are made free from coercion, shame, or state interference, a society in which individuals and communities have autonomy in making healthy choices regarding their bodies and their futures.
